DMC Migration from One Server to Another

DMC Distributed Monitoring Console is used for health monitoring of Splunk environment. If we have DMC configured on a server and that server is to be decommissioned after some time or because of any reason you want to configure DMC on another server.

In our case we have huge Splunk architecture and reconfiguring all servers’s manually again to new DMC server will be time taking task. It would be great if we could migrate DMC from old server to new sever with existing configurations as it saves our time and effort of reconfiguring it.

Below are the steps to migrate DMC from one server to other:

Step1: Copy distsearch.conf from /opt/splunk/etc/system/local/ of older server to targeted Splunk server on same path. Run below command on old server.
  • scp -r distsearch.conf splunk@:/opt/splunk/etc/system/local/
Step2: Copy local folder of splunk_monitoring_console app from older server to targeted Splunk server inside same app. Run below command on old server.
  • scp -r local splunk@:/opt/splunk/etc/apps/splunk_monitoring_console/
Step3: Restart targeted Splunk server to apply all changes.

Step4: After restarting go to New server UI>>Setting >> distributed search >> search peers

There you will able to see the list of servers

Note: - Wait for 10 to 15 min until status for all servers shows successful.

Step5: Go to Setting >> Monitoring console >> Overview

Here you get overview of your Splunk architecture health.
